The 601 Vigilance Committee is truly an American HISTORICAL social phenomenon that promotes tourism in Virginia City! The name sake of this group, existed in Virginia City during the 1860’s through the 1880’s. Although the original “601” group memberships and true identities were kept secret, they were believed to be a group of respectable businessmen and mine owner’s who were notorious for executing summary justice for suspected criminals who chose reckless disobedience of the law of the land. Today’s group of 601 Vigilance Committee members proudly wear badges reflecting the 601 brand, are an association of American citizens who reside across the country in several different states, that have pledged to keep the Western and Comstock history alive in Virginia City.

601 Vigilance Committee is organized as a 501c3 Non-profit registered in the State of Nevada as a historical preservation and community service group. We are authorized and qualified to legally carry firearms, we dress in western or 1860-1890 period attire, and our commitment is to raise money for endorsement, promotion, advancement, and support of the Virginia City community including its’ historical ties to the Comstock Silver Mine era.
